«Spain is, to a great degree, still to be discovered, not least in the picturesque sense, as well as in many other aspects».

Hojas Selectas n.º 37, 1905
With these words Unamuno began ton arrate a journey around Arribes del Duero. It is a fascinating spot, conceived millions of years ago, where the Douro passes between the lands around Zamora, Salamanca and Portugal. The difference in altitude can be as much as 400 metres. Nearly half a kilometre in height in a frontier land known by all as La Raya, [The Line].
Unamuno travelled there for the first time during Carnival in 1898. Four years later, at the beginning of May 1902, he returned with the doctor Enrique de Areilza, the lawyer L. Gutiérrez Abascal, the writer Pedro Eguillor, as well as his friend Agustín del Cañizo and, as a guide, his uncle Mateo.
Below, we have made a small homage in the form of a video-creation.
«¡Los siglos de siglos que habrá necesitado el agua para excavar tales tajos y reducir semejantes cascadas!»
